ControlFusion: AControllable Image Fusion Network with Language-Vision Degradation Prompts

Neural Information Processing Systems

Current image fusion methods struggle with real-world composite degradations and lack the flexibility to accommodate user-specific needs. To address this, we propose ControlFusion, a controllable fusion network guided by language-vision prompts that adaptively mitigates composite degradations. On the one hand, we construct a degraded imaging model based on physical mechanisms, such as the Retinex theory and atmospheric scattering principle, to simulate composite degradations and provide a data foundation for addressing realistic degradations. On the other hand, we devise a prompt-modulated restoration and fusion network that dynamically enhances features according to degradation prompts, enabling adaptability to varying degradation levels. To support user-specific preferences in visual quality, a text encoder is incorporated to embed user-defined degradation types and levels as degradation prompts. Moreover, a spatial-frequency collaborative visual adapter is designed to autonomously perceive degradations from source images, thereby reducing complete reliance on user instructions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ControlFusion outperforms SOTA fusion methods in fusion quality and degradation handling, particularly under real-world and compound degradations.

Deep Multimodal Multilinear Fusion with High-order Polynomial Pooling

Neural Information Processing Systems

More importantly, simply fusing features all at once ignores the complex local intercorrelations, leading to the deterioration of prediction. In this work, we first propose a polynomial tensor pooling (PTP) block for integrating multimodal features by considering high-order moments, followed by a tensorized fully connected layer. Treating PTP as a building block, we further establish a hierarchical polynomial fusion network (HPFN) to recursively transmit local correlations into global ones.

E2E-MFD: Towards End-to-End Synchronous Multimodal Fusion Detection

Neural Information Processing Systems

Multimodal image fusion and object detection are crucial for autonomous driving. While current methods have advanced the fusion of texture details and semantic information, their complex training processes hinder broader applications. Addressing this challenge, we introduce E2E-MFD, a novel end-to-end algorithm for multimodal fusion detection.

Towards Unified Semantic and Controllable Image Fusion: A Diffusion Transformer Approach

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Image fusion aims to blend complementary information from multiple sensing modalities, yet existing approaches remain limited in robustness, adaptability, and controllability. Most current fusion networks are tailored to specific tasks and lack the ability to flexibly incorporate user intent, especially in complex scenarios involving low-light degradation, color shifts, or exposure imbalance. Moreover, the absence of ground-truth fused images and the small scale of existing datasets make it difficult to train an end-to-end model that simultaneously understands high-level semantics and performs fine-grained multimodal alignment. We therefore present DiTFuse, instruction-driven Diffusion-Transformer (DiT) framework that performs end-to-end, semantics-aware fusion within a single model. By jointly encoding two images and natural-language instructions in a shared latent space, DiTFuse enables hierarchical and fine-grained control over fusion dynamics, overcoming the limitations of pre-fusion and post-fusion pipelines that struggle to inject high-level semantics. The training phase employs a multi-degradation masked-image modeling strategy, so the network jointly learns cross-modal alignment, modality-invariant restoration, and task-aware feature selection without relying on ground truth images. A curated, multi-granularity instruction dataset further equips the model with interactive fusion capabilities. DiTFuse unifies infrared-visible, multi-focus, and multi-exposure fusion-as well as text-controlled refinement and downstream tasks-within a single architecture. Experiments on public IVIF, MFF, and MEF benchmarks confirm superior quantitative and qualitative performance, sharper textures, and better semantic retention. The model also supports multi-level user control and zero-shot generalization to other multi-image fusion scenarios, including instruction-conditioned segmentation.

SWIR-LightFusion: Multi-spectral Semantic Fusion of Synthetic SWIR with Thermal IR (LWIR/MWIR) and RGB

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Enhancing scene understanding in adverse visibility conditions remains a critical challenge for surveillance and autonomous navigation systems. Conventional imaging modalities, such as RGB and thermal infrared (MWIR / LWIR), when fused, often struggle to deliver comprehensive scene information, particularly under conditions of atmospheric interference or inadequate illumination. To address these limitations, Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) imaging has emerged as a promising modality due to its ability to penetrate atmospheric disturbances and differentiate materials with improved clarity. However, the advancement and widespread implementation of SWIR-based systems face significant hurdles, primarily due to the scarcity of publicly accessible SWIR datasets. In response to this challenge, our research introduces an approach to synthetically generate SWIR-like structural/contrast cues (without claiming spectral reproduction) images from existing LWIR data using advanced contrast enhancement techniques. We then propose a multimodal fusion framework integrating synthetic SWIR, LWIR, and RGB modalities, employing an optimized encoder-decoder neural network architecture with modality-specific encoders and a softmax-gated fusion head. Comprehensive experiments on public RGB-LWIR benchmarks (M3FD, TNO, CAMEL, MSRS, RoadScene) and an additional private real RGB-MWIR-SWIR dataset demonstrate that our synthetic-SWIR-enhanced fusion framework improves fused-image quality (contrast, edge definition, structural fidelity) while maintaining real-time performance. We also add fair trimodal baselines (LP, LatLRR, GFF) and cascaded trimodal variants of U2Fusion/SwinFusion under a unified protocol. The outcomes highlight substantial potential for real-world applications in surveillance and autonomous systems.

MSMT-FN: Multi-segment Multi-task Fusion Network for Marketing Audio Classification

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Audio classification plays an essential role in sentiment analysis and emotion recognition, especially for analyzing customer attitudes in marketing phone calls. Efficiently categorizing customer purchasing propensity from large volumes of audio data remains challenging. In this work, we propose a novel Multi-Segment Multi-Task Fusion Network (MSMT-FN) that is uniquely designed for addressing this business demand. Evaluations conducted on our proprietary MarketCalls dataset, as well as established benchmarks (CMU-MOSI, CMU-MOSEI, and MELD), show MSMT-FN consistently outperforms or matches state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, our newly curated MarketCalls dataset will be available upon request, and the code base is made accessible at GitHub Repository MSMT-FN, to facilitate further research and advancements in audio classification domain.

AngularFuse: A Closer Look at Angle-based Perception for Spatial-Sensitive Multi-Modality Image Fusion

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Visible-infrared image fusion is crucial in key applications such as autonomous driving and nighttime surveillance. Its main goal is to integrate multimodal information to produce enhanced images that are better suited for downstream tasks. Although deep learning based fusion methods have made significant progress, mainstream unsupervised approaches still face serious challenges in practical applications. Existing methods mostly rely on manually designed loss functions to guide the fusion process. However, these loss functions have obvious limitations. On one hand, the reference images constructed by existing methods often lack details and have uneven brightness. On the other hand, the widely used gradient losses focus only on gradient magnitude. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an angle-based perception framework for spatial-sensitive image fusion (AngularFuse). At first, we design a cross-modal complementary mask module to force the network to learn complementary information between modalities. Then, a fine-grained reference image synthesis strategy is introduced. By combining Laplacian edge enhancement with adaptive histogram equalization, reference images with richer details and more balanced brightness are generated. Last but not least, we introduce an angle-aware loss, which for the first time constrains both gradient magnitude and direction simultaneously in the gradient domain. AngularFuse ensures that the fused images preserve both texture intensity and correct edge orientation. Comprehensive experiments on the MSRS, RoadScene, and M3FD public datasets show that AngularFuse outperforms existing mainstream methods with clear margin. Visual comparisons further confirm that our method produces sharper and more detailed results in challenging scenes, demonstrating superior fusion capability.

MIDOG 2025: Mitotic Figure Detection with Attention-Guided False Positive Correction

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

We present a novel approach which extends the existing Fully Convolutional One-Stage Object Detector (FCOS) for mitotic figure detection. Our composite model adds a Feedback Attention Ladder CNN (FAL-CNN) model for classification of normal versus abnormal mitotic figures, feeding into a fusion network that is trained to generate adjustments to bounding boxes predicted by FCOS. Our network aims to reduce the false positive rate of the FCOS object detector, to improve the accuracy of object detection and enhance the generalisability of the network. Our model achieved an F1 score of 0.655 for mitosis detection on the preliminary evaluation dataset.
